Information Technology Division Communication Lab

Get connected with your local network.

Key in your Desktop detail and touch the Connect word at the leftside.

Done. Your are now Connecting your Desktop through your PDA’s…. Remotely and mobile. But the size smaller than u always use.

The Taskbar on your desktop.

In university environment, If you want to type letters, that not so efficient to type using PDA remote desktop. but at least you can view or search something in your desktop while you are mobile within the campus area without bringing your laptop. Some say the laptop is heavy or big or hard to bring or bla bla bla, although the price thousand2 plus…. huhu.. so maybe this can be other mechanisme for them to apply.

Still dont know about the need and practicality. Just a little bit result in theory and practical search, hopefully it may useful to little bit people out there.

Setting up the VPN on iPhone

July 17, 2008

Why would any one want to set up VPN on the iPhone?

(1) To access internal web pages of their company.

(2) To get exchange email for which a VPN connection is needed.

Summary

This article covers the basics about the VPN protocols that iPhone and iPod touch support*. For making sure VPN is properly configured to work with iPhone or iPod touch, you should contact your network administrator or IT Department. You also might want to refer them to this article.

iPhone and iPod touch work with VPN servers that support the following protocols and authentication methods:

VPN Type User / Machine Based Authentication Authentication Method(s) Supported
L2TP / IPSec User MSChapV2 Password
RSA SecurID
CRYPTOCard
Machine Shared Secret
PPTP User MSChapV2 Password
RSA SecurID
CRYPTOCard
Cisco IPSec VPN** User Password
RSA SecurID
CRYPTOCard
Certificate
Machine Shared Secret
Certificate

iPhone and iPod touch can use certificates in the following raw formats**:

  • PKCS1 (.cer, .crt, .der)
  • PCSC12 (.p12, .pfx)

Products Affected

iPhone, iPod touch, iPhone 3G

If you are successfully using VPN in Mac OS X with a L2TP/IPSec configuration and you are using Password, RSA SecurID, or CRYPTOCard User Authentication methods, and Shared Secret key for Machine Authentication, then the same VPN configuration should work on iPhone or iPod touch. In addition, if you are using a Shared Secret key for Machine Authentication, it should work as well. The other User Authentication / Machine Authentication methods are not supported by iPhone or iPod touch.

Or, if you are successfully using VPN in Mac OS X with a PPTP configuration and you are using the Password or RSA SecurID User Authentication method, then the same VPN configuration should work on iPhone. The other User Authentication methods are not supported by iPhone or iPod touch.

If you have questions about what your VPN settings are or what your Shared Secret key is, you should contact your network administrator or IT Department.

For information on how to set up and use VPN, see the iPhone Enterprise Deployment Guide:

*Requires iPod touch software 1.1.3 (with January Software Upgrade) or later

** Requires iPhone 2.0 software or later

Recipes : Char Kuay Tiaw

July 16, 2008

http://www.rasamalaysia.com/ckt.jpg

1 view of Recipe

  • 450g fresh flat rice noodles
  • 5 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic (chopped rough)
  • 4 cups bean sprouts (rinsed & trimmed)
  • 225g fresh medium shrimps (shelled & deveined)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
  • 3/4 garlic clives (cut into 2 inches lenghts) Chili Paste
  • 8 dried chillies (sliced, soaked & drained)
  • 1 tsp shrimp paste (crumbled) Sauce
  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp water

HINT: Wok must be on high heat. To make it a truly authentic dish, cook and serve each dish individually. Use enough oil so the noodles won’t stick but not too much or the char koay teow becomes greasy. You can also add ‘kecep manis’ or sweet soy sauce for added favour.

Makes about 6 servings. You can add in any vegetables of your choice, I find choi sum tastes best.

My personal experience: For some reason, if I don’t add prawns into the dish, it does not taste as good. To jazz up your char koay teow dish, why not add cooked pieces of crab meat?

Another Recipe

Ingredients:

300g kway teow (flat rice noodles)

200g prawns (shelled)

50g chives (cut into 3cm lengths)

150g beansprouts

1 chinese sausage (sliced)

3 eggs

2 cloves garlic (chopped)

4 tbsp cooking oil

1-2 tbsp chilli paste

Seasoning:

2 tsp light soya sauce

1 tsp dark soya sauce

a pinch of salt

a dash of pepper

Method:

1.  Heat 4 tbsp oil in wok until hot, add chopped garlic and fry until fragrant.  Turn up the heat and add the chilli paste (if used) and continue to fry until fragrant.

2.  Add prawns, chinese sausage slices and beansprouts and fry for a while.  Push all the fried ingredients to one side and add the kway teow (flat rice noodles) and stir-fry quickly for a few seconds.

3.  Add seasoning, sprinkle with a little water and stir in all the fried ingredients.  Push ingredients to the sides of the wok to create an empty space in the centre.  Add a tbsp of oil and crack in the eggs.  When the eggs start to set,  cover the eggs with the noodle mixture and stir-fry evenly.

4.  Finally, add the chives and stir-fry for 20 seconds before dishing up.

Chilli Paste:

2 tbsp chilli paste

10 shallots

1/2 tsp salt

5-6 tbsp oil

Method:

1.  Blend skinned shallots and mix with chilli paste.

2.  Heat oil in wok and fry the chilli paste over slow fire, stirring constantly until fragrant and until the oil separates from paste.  Season with a little salt
