I Believe Germany can advance to semifinals if you change your fist eleven line up. Mario Gomez is useless striker that Germany ever had. You have Neuville or Kuranyi as an option to replace Gomez. David Odonkor also should play. The rule of thumb for basic football: Offensive beats defensive, defensive beats normal, normal beats offensive. Germany is playing normal mode while Portugal is playing offensive. When you lost to Crotia 1-2, I can smell that, your route to semifinal become a little bit easy. As an underdog, Turkey might play defensive. Portugal might be used 4-4-2 formation. You can play with 3 defenders, 5 midfielders and 2 forwards. According to the old school football theory, this balanced formation tends to do well against a 4-4-2. So, I would like to propose my line up against Portugal

Goalkeeper: Lehman 

Deffender: Mertesacker, Metzelder, Friedrich

Midfielder: Podolski, Lahm, Frings, Ballack, Odonkor

Foward: Kuranyi, Klose

you can also esily change to 4-4-2 formation. Lahm can go down as a deffender.
