That is the common question asked by our users. Don’t be shocked if some of the fellas who asked this question is coming from technical faculty. We assume they are supposed be more IT savvy then the non-technical faculty. What do you aspect ? Does wireless has its own infrastructure directly connected to internet ? if you think like that, ITD must have redundant infrastructure to seperate all the cabling backbone and it will cost IIUM another RM100 M. Some users think wireless network is wireless everything. the answer is NO !

What we defined as wireless network is only the connection between user and access point (AP)

The backend connection still using the same infrastructure with cabling network. It shares the same backbone and connected at the same LAN room. If the LAN got power tripping, the whole network is down.

The wireless services that ITD offers to IIUM community is not an alternative to wired network that you have in your office. It is not a backup link when your wired connection is out of service. This wireless service offers mobility features to the users. You can have connection outside your office: cafeteria, classroom, meeting room, lecture theature, IIUM mosque etc.

Currently 280 users successful connected using wireless. Most of them did a self configuration following the manual provided in the web. Even Prof Kamal also did it by himself. Congrat Tan Sri ! So to all, don’t be rude to my technician when you can’t get connected. By right, the system is always in good condition, the actual problem is at the other end. We’ll try our best to serve the community.

ITD will conduct a wireless roadshow soon. I need a greenlight from my boss. We will go to every Kulliyah to help user who still don’t know how to configure their laptop. When is the roadshow ? Soon !!!. I can’t confirm the date and schedule yet.
